(Khao Lak, Thailand) Around this time five years ago I picked up a rental car at Phuket Airport and headed to the tsunami stricken areas about an hours drive North of the airport. Tourist destination Khao Lak had been severly hit, killing several thousand locals as well as visiting foreigners. I was there to photograph the aftermath.
Five years later I was back in another rental car. Armed with a stack of these pictures on the passenger seat and strange mix of memories in my head I went looking for the same places I had photographed back then. Most places were easy to find. Others man and nature had worked together to disguise. Khao Lak had certainly worked hard to erase many of the physical scars of the tsunami.
The result is a series of before/after pictures I quite like myself. A few others liked them too it would seem: so far published (to my knowledge) in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
