A great comic strip on the everyday trials of photographers is What The Duck by Aaron Johnson. Yesterday's strip illustrates in part where this blog post is coming from: it is just me bragging again!
Well, let's call it sharing, that sounds better. I'd like to share the news that one of my images recently was shown in an exhibition in South Korea. I like it when I get that sort of news. More precisely it was shown at the Daelim Museum, Seoul, Korea. And you can see the exhibition at Korean Cultural Centre, in London, UK from 13 October – 28 November 2009, that may be closer to some of you.
This picture serves an as illustration to the sad state of our oceans. But it also illustrates the lifespan of some images, as this one was taken 10 years ago, in Sri Lanka. I don't have a number, but this image has been sold many times since I took it. This time via the fab crew at Panos Pictures. A tip for other photographers: make sure you have your images well captioned and organized. Not doing so is throwing money out the window. And with today's technology there really is no excuse not to have an archive that will earn you a few $ or € or whatever every now and then. And you don't need to be represented by an agency to get your pictures seen. I don't get a single cent (in any currency) for plugging Photoshelter (but I should, do you hear me, Allen & Grover!), but I will still recommend it to anyone asking about an archive system.
