With many of the exhibitions being held in old churches it is easy to go overboard with religious anekdotes, and say we are here to worship photojournalism. Or bury it.I am not sure I am ready to do either. The photo festival in Perpignan is place where I get reminded of some of the flaws in our profession. But let's not waste time on that. Much more important is being reminded how much brilliant work is done around the world. So much inspiration can get had here if you don't need to be the world champion all the time and slag the work of your fellow photojournalists (other rules of the festival an be found at foto8).
One can come away from Perpignan with lots of ideas for new projects (unfortunately some come away with other peoples ideas, but that's another blog).Sadly no one yet knows who's going to pay for any future projects, or who will publish the pictures. The festival itself is sponsored by the Devil. So now we are pondering, shall we too accept 30 pieces of silver? Is that how we contribute to the photojournalism resurrection?
