BASE gone wrong

For a long time I've been waiting to go back to the mountainous Romsdalen in Western Norway to photograph BASE jumping. I've been looking forward to it. And dreading it! It is exciting to photograph, but you are at the mercy of the weather gods and it involves a lot more hiking in the mountains than my knees like. However none of these things seemed very important as I learned a base jumper had died as I was driving across the mountains from Oslo. As I got to the scene the jumper had been lifted out by helicopter, but two of his freinds had to be rescued from the mountain, after they attempted to help him. It is sad, but it is also a fact one must deal with when one gets involved with BASE jumping: sooner or later, you or someone you know will crash, perhaps even die.
